From the Transportationist. After seeing a jump in ridership this year, Southwest Transit is testing double-decker buses on certain routes this week. The buses hold 45% more seated passengers than a regular, cost a lot more, but use a similar amount of fuel.
According to the article, they have not been widely used in the US because they weren’t Made In America and therefore didn’t qualify for a federal funding requirement. Anyone know how much federal funding the private Southwest Transit gets? Interestingly, we have let “foreign” cars drive on our federally funded roads for a long time.
